It is likely that the pictures of both the
VX2000/PD150/DSR250 and the DV500 are comparable
both in quality, and low-light range - and both are
a step above the XL-1 (in color-depth, resolution,
picture-smoothness, and low-light-range). The
differences arise in handling/control (and in
image quality if a better lens is added to the
DV500). The Sony offers the fold-out screen VF,
relatively excellent automatic controls, and
relatively poor manual controls; the JVC offers
lens interchangeability, relatively poor automatic
controls, and relatively excellent manual controls
(including additional picture controls). It comes
down to preferences in control types, desire for
a stabilizer or not, and shoulder-mount or not,
mostly...;-)
