You did not mention this specifically. The Canon 3-CCD
"frame mode" actually reduces resolution further due
to the interpolation used to get full 30fps frame rate.

I have not tried it, but those who know claim that film
transfers from NTSC video are better done from interlaced
video, not PS or frame video, since the time difference
in the fields is used to help change the frame rate to that of
film successfully. "Frame" shooting only makes sense with
PAL gear for film transfer, since the frame-rate issue is
almost non-existent - but straight video viewing of PAL
is problematic at best. Also, film transfer of video is VERY
expensive... Shoot the best *video* footage you can, and
shoot it interlaced in NTSC-land, if you will transfer to
film; forget the hokey video "film-look" - shoot good
*video*, a different (and excellent) medium from film; if
you MUST have "film-look", shoot film...
