Hi--

I just scanned through your review in the Sony VX2000.

The only reason I didn't read through in the article's
entirety is that I am not technically articulate enough
to understand the digital lingo. I was hoping that you
could help me with the dilemma of purchasing a digital
camera with the intention of being able to transfer to
the "big screen."
Is the VX2000 capable of professional movie quality?
Will the end result look like a home camcorder or cable
tv commercial or can one get the quality of film out of it?
In other words, if I use the VX2000 will it look like I
shot a real movie?
I hope you can help me out. I'm trying to learn and your
article definitely helped out.

Mini-DV *format* resolution is 720x480 (NTSC), and this
translates into 540 lines ***maximum*** horizontal resolution
(X 480 lines vertical...) on tape, rarely actually achieved
(the VX2000/PD150 comes closest). This is considered VERY LOW
by film standards (35mm standard-frame and up), which approximates
3000x4000 resolution and up, best case.
While the VX2000 has the highest resolution in its format, the
results will not look like a large film production. Used with
skill and understanding of its limitations, the results with
this video camera (or even one of much lower quality) can be
viewable, and used for some "movie" productions...
