Or, in another form, this information is also at:
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/camcorder-comparison.htm
and www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/sony_dcr-vx2000.htm
in these image-comparison sites, though you would
need to compare the XL-1 with something else, like
the VX1000 in the first site, then in the second,
compare the VX1000 with the VX2000... If this is
too much to dig through, then compare these images
from the sites...:
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/web_photos/camcorders/vx-1000/Ou-vx1000.jpg
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/web_photos/camcorders/xl-1/ou-xl1.jpg
Look for detail differences in places like the siding
and small tree on the white house on the right, the
details in the yellow house to its left, the details
on the last building down the street, the details
and wires near the top of the power pole, etc.,then
compare these images:
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/images/VX-1000%20int.jpg
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/images/VX-2000%20int.jpg
Look for detail difference in the striping on the
couch arm in the lower left, in the record and tape
spines, the flowers, the face, etc.
If the VX2000 is sharper than the VX1000, and if
the VX1000 is sharper than the XL-1, then the
VX2000 is sharper than the XL-1 - and since even
with an intervening step present in this succession,
the differences are noticeable, the direct VX2000
to XL-1 comparison must be even more noticeable.
BTW, has anyone claimed that the XL-1s picture is
much, if any, sharper than the XL-1 picture? Or,
if so, how that could be? Repeatedly, those who have
tried the VX2000/PD150/DSR250 side-by-side with
either XL-1 version say the Sony is sharper,
regardless of which camera they own... Sharpness
is only one of many issues (but an important one),
but in no other way regarding picture have I seen
evidence of the superiority of the XL-1 picture
(only a preference...), though the XL-1 picture can
be shown to have many serious defects in addition
to lower resolution when compared to better. It
shows the ill effects of oversharpening, not being
a full-width image, having somewhat too-high
contrast, noticeable problems with showing
near-vertical lines in motion without
discontinuities, and strong color bias in some
situations. BTW, for more on picture characteristics
and faults, I've put up a new article on this, at:
