Hi, again...

A few things occurred to me after writing the last email
(as in, "DOING!" ;-)...
Afghanistan is VERY monochromatic, and nearly neutral in tone
(EVERYWHERE), so anything at all that can be done to "perk" it up
is necessary (but not representative of the needs in other
locations) - even using a camera with a red bias and spurious
color casts. I do this as habit, so I forget to emphasize it
FOR BEST COLOR FOR EXTERIORS (under ANY light conditions),
THE SONY MINI-DV CAMERAS LOOK BEST WITH "DWB" ENGAGED!!!
Since engaging/disengaging DWB can be as simple as a single
button-push, there is little reason for not doing it - and
the color improvement is not subtle... For travel/parties/family/
wilds-o'-Afghanistan shooting, I would be unlikely to choose the
VX2000 - not for picture reasons, but for size/weight reasons
(I liked my Pan EZ30U for this...), and would be likely to
look at using the TRV900 or Panasonic for these... I sold my
EZ30U, though, since near-vertical-lines were so badly rendered
that interiors looked as good even with my PC1, which does NOT
have a "smooth-looking" picture... (I have replaced it with the
PC9). Anyway, for particular purposes, for particular reasons,
one may not always choose to use the camcorder with the best
picture (I often use my one-chip Sonys...;-), but if the question
is, "What Mini-DV camcorder has the best picture?", the answer
is, "The VX2000, when appropriately adjusted using the simple
on-board controls" - other questions may have different answers...;-)
