The short of it: among the 3-CCD Mini-DV cameras
available at the time of the review, the VX1000
was at the top of the heap, the GL1 (XM1) at the
bottom (for both picture and sound quality - though
the XM1 is a useable camera and some people like it
[for reasons I do not understand...;-]). BTW, the
VX2000 and the TRV950 (in good light) are better
than both, and the GL2 is a big improvement over
the GL1 (though still a tad behind the VX2000
in picture quality and low light range...).
