You might consider the PD-150 instead of the VX-2000
for "film" work due to the XLRs and *slightly* more
"manual"-oriented controls... A more expensive
alternative Mini-DV camera would be a shoulder-mount
JVC, which has more conventional and numerous manual
controls. The VX-2000 is an excellent choice for a
more auto-controlled, quick-shooting style of work
(the auto functions are excellent, and have useful
bias controls - true also of the PD-150).
