Gosh, I usually fault magazine and web camcorder reviews for
not pointing out anything negative about the gear - now it
would appear that at least one is reporting a false negative
regarding the VX-2000. V-e-r-y c-u-r-i-o-u-s . . . ;-)
I own two of these, and many of these are owned by readers
and writers here in the video NGs, yet rarely is this "hiss"
reported by people with much experience with the VX-2000...
As I point out in my review of the VX-2000 at
http://www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/sony_dcr-vx2000.htm ,
the control range in manual mode is wide, the headphone
amp is noisy, the amp is high-end peaked, and many monitoring
headphones are high-end peaked, so it is VERY easy to
hear not only noticeable hiss, but "popcorn" noise as well.
But normally-recorded material monitored on the line-outs
is acceptably quiet (this is, after all, a "handycam", so
it should not be expected to have CD-quality sound - but the
sound is VERY good, and far better than it was on camcorders
just a few years a go). I'm (impatiently) waiting for this
VX-2000 "hiss" nonsense to die out, as it should, but
apparently Videography has seen fit to prolong its
life...;-)
One wonders why...;-)
