Yes, but at the cost of lower contrast, and with wide-angles, darker
corners. Darkish VF screens are not necessarily bad - they can have
very even illumination, and nice contrast for easy manual focus.
They may also have less linear distortion, since they may have one
less condenser lens to brighten the image (most modern camera VF's
have considerable pincushion distortion as a result of making the
viewfinder optics both bright and compact).
