PR's post covers one aspect - the other is that
these "battery meters" are not accurate. It is likely
that the battery voltage is slightly high when freshly
charged and the camera is first turned on, but drops
to normal level quickly. At the other end, one moment
it looks like you have 20 minutes or so of record time
left, but the nearly drained battery voltage then
droops quicky, and the "empty battery" flasher comes on...
