The best version of the DPS Spark software appears to be
version 2.00, which can output multiple AVI files seamlessly
to tape (later versions don't seem to work as well for
this...). With this software, it is best to add one extra frame
to each of the finished AVI files (bring the "task
bar" one frame backward in the timeline before making each
final AVI file to be used for assembling the video). When
all the pieces of the project have been made into AVI files,
open each one with Spark (in reverse order - and it is
useful to place a file of "black" with muted audio at each
end of the playlist), and hit the rigt-facing button near
the upper right of the Spark window to put the file in the
playlist (the first time this is done a playlist window
will open - it can be saved, if desired, when finished).
When the playlist is complete, start the camcorder
recording (with the FireWire connected...), then hit the
small downward-facing triangle in the Spark window near
the right edge. It is important to disable (in "settings",
"playback") the scroll-bar, or playback may not be smooth.
I have successfully made long videos on three different
computers using this software - it works!
