Yes, a good UV filter can be left on at all times...
(Just today, I removed the bent frame of a glassless
Hoya 72mm filter from a fairly rare and excellent 28mm
f4 Nikkor PC lens. It took the brunt of a long fall to
concrete - and the owner was pleased that only minor
work was required to restore the lens to completely
normal operating condition...)
