You are correct. But, film can record UV. BUT, yes, BUT (;-), most
modern lenses do not transmit enough UV to worry about, so a clear
filter would serve as well in most cases (popular opinion to the
contrary...;-) The UV filter exists now mostly as a tradition
(as the nearest to a colorless filter, for protecting the lens),
though colorless non-UV "protection filters" have recently appeared
on the market as an alternative.
