None of the three versions is truly IF, but the filter threads
do not rotate on the two "D" versions, but they do on the
non-"D".

It is possible to use this big lens with the camera attached to
the tripod, but it requires a strong head (like the Arca B1), with
a camera mounting plate that cannot rotate (RRS) for vertical photos
(in windless conditions...). If the Slik does not have an all-metal
head, I would not use it (plastic splits all too easily...). If you
mostly use a tripod for photography, I would recommend getting the
newer lens, since it saves the price of an awkward bracket or the
expensive Arca system.
