I find the Tiffen filters acquire the mysterious fogging even in
non-original filter boxes that cause no problems with other filters.

The darkest vignette (though smallest) will occur at the smallest
aperture - if a filter vignettes, it vignettes at all apertures
(though it may not be noticeable at wide apertures because it is
large and soft-edged - or at small apertures if it gets cut off
in printing). The Tiffen rims are too thick for use on many
wide-angles.
