The others pretty well covered it, but here are some
specifics: I use a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist no.1 with
a TRV900 to tame contrast (it also reduces color
saturation and introduces highlight flare, unfortunately),
and without a WA, I must use AE-A, with a stop no smaller
than f2.8 selected to avoid seeing irregularities in
smooth-tone areas; with a WA, its use is impossible on
this camera since the "hairs" in the filter glass show
due to the great DOF even at the widest stop. I use the
built-in ND filter to reduce the shutter speed in bright
light when the aperture is fixed at f2.8.
