I have had two of these (one slightly defective), and they are really
excellent (VERY surprising to me!), being sharp to the corners at
all apertures and FL's at all normal distances. The lens has a
built-in rear variable extension tube, which allows focus closer
than the usual 7 feet, and performance at minimum focus with the
tube is excellent from 50-135mm. Illumination is reasonably even,
contrast is a touch below Nikon-normal, flare is low, as is ghosting
(but only when used with the large rubber shade intended for it - the
same one used on the 35-200mm). Distortion is a bit high over much of
the range, and is quite high near the long end. The lens is not large
(about 4.5 inches long) and it is metal..... The filter size is 67mm
(I use a skylight on it to help approximate Nikon lens color). The
zoom-focus is one ring type. Used prices are about $250 for one
in nice condition. The Tamron 28-135mm f4-4.5 (virtually
constant-aperture) is one of the few zooms that
I liked enough to keep.
Hope This Helps
