It is inherent, used when TV image centering and shape could
vary considerably (we had a *round-screen* Zenith, when I was
a kid!;-), to insure that image would appear in all parts of the
TV screen... The image area likely to appear in all TV's is
called the "TV-safe area", and you should edit with this in mind
(some editing programs overlay a rectangle on the computer
display to show the TV-safe area).
