That may be what the book and Nikon say, but I find that there
is no practical limit to the ASA setting for TTL flash on the
8008 (and, I suspect, on the other newer Nikon bodies). Put a
dummy piece of film in the camera, set up a good flash meter on
a medium grey background at a reasonable distance so you are not
overwhelming the TTL shut-down at high ASA's, and just keep
raising the ASA. 6400 ASA TTL flash, anyone? I have found this
ability to TTL flash with very high speed film quite useful
for filling in those non-available-light photos people ask me
to shoot. (When, oh when, will people remember that "photography"
means "the recording of light"! [Not the recording of "near total
darkness".])
