No reason at all - and with the wide range of available auto-mode
f-stops you can use, it works very well. Voltage is not a concern
since the low switching voltage put out by TTL-type flashes will
not harm the camera (don't attach non-TTL flashes to the PC terminals
at the same time or their high-voltages may fry the TTL flash).
Newer cameras with TTL shoes can sometimes be damaged by using non-TTL
flashes (which generally have switching voltages that are 200-300
volts), but the TTL-type flashes will not harm the camera or
be harmed by it.
