Ah, so you are seeing "dot crawl" also - and somewhat
reduced resolution... Also, this came up in correspondence
with someone complaining about stairstepping: the jpg
he sent me as an example was shot in 16:9 mode, which
will also exaggerate the stairstepping when viewed in
4:3...

Yes. Press the tiny button at the bottom rear of the
VX2000 handle, and the "custom controls" menu comes
up. There are some suggested settings in the review
at www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/sony_dcr-vx2000.htm.
This can be used to bias the excellent auto controls
for preferences in exposure, hue, sharpening, and
color saturation, and allows gain-rise limiting...

The picture can be improved even a bit more, using
the custom controls - if used carefully...! ;-).
