Some comments:
Regarding the first page, there is more to imaging
quality than lines of resolution - tonality, color,
and "cleanliness" of line edges also count. (See:
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/vid_pict_characts.htm
for examples of various video image characteristics
one might, in time, also find important...;-). Even
so, judging from only the small comparison of the
resolution test patch, besides the greater resolution
shown for the VX2000, one can also see that the
VX2000 has better shadow tone separation (and it
would show better highlight separation also, with
lighter exposure of both patches...).
Regarding the second page, the D8 image could easily
be processed in a good editor to show similar color
and dark-tone information (but with increased "grain"),
but the difference in smoothness of tonality and lack
of "grit" in the VX2000 image is quite obvious. Also,
the curved part of the window is shown in the VX2000
image with less "stairstepping" and with less edge
"oversharpening" outlining, making for a more "photo-
realistic" looking image... The differences are akin
to what one would see in still photography comparing
enlargements made from 35mm and 2 1/4" formats - maybe
not a lot of difference in resolution, but obvious
differences in other characteristics that make up
high-quality images. This is not to say that one
should not use 35mm or 1-CCD camcorders, though - both
have their place and uses, and I use both often...;-)
