Daylight White Balance preset - it is "warmer" than
AWB on Sony camcorders, and looks better to me for
daylight shooting; the portrait mode (TRV30 only - it
is different on other Sony models) forces the aperture
wide, may reduce the sharpening some, and biases the
auto exposure a bit darker (preferable in daylight to
the bit-too-bright standard auto program mode...),
producing a nicer picture for me, especially when
it is combined with soft lighting or subjects
without strong contrasts and textures (these can make
the TRV30 image insufferable...;-).

I have not tried the TRV27, but from where it sits
in the line (middle, below TRV30/50 at top end of
Sony 1-chippers, and above TRV17/18 which are at
the bottom) and the pixel-count (similar to my
TRV730 and PC100), I would expect it to be the
better value at the same price for picture quality.
The sound quality varies somewhat in the various
models and forms. The stills are all limited to
640x480 if you want to avoid obvious noise, but
the TRV30 stills at that size (web use only) are
noticeably better than those from the TRV730 and
my PC9, a little better than from my PC100, and
almost as good as those from my VX2000...
