Hmmm....
Does *no-one* read my posts....?! ;-)
To quote my post, above...:

"Normally" the shade is keyed to fit directly on the
lens (the key keeps the orientation correct), with the
filter then screwed into the shade (and the cap fits
on the front...). This may make things easier, but for
best shading of the filter and the best placement of
the filter, it is incorrect. I prefer to fit the filter
on the lens, then use an alternative (larger, deeper)
shade on the filter - with a cap fitted to the front of
the shade...

As you noted, the "normal" arrangement for the TRV900
leaves you (absurdly) without lens-shade protection,
even with the lens-shade in use...! ;-) Use a better
solution - and while you're at it, replace the poor
Tiffen filter with something better (almost anything -
the Tiffen filters "self-fog", reducing contrast, and
they tend to be uncoated, and have excessively thick
rims [I prefer single-coated Hoya in low-priced
filters...] - and I have ranted about this for years,
with apparently little effect...! ;-).
[rant nearly ended...;-]
