I just checked out two TRV-900's (along with several
other mini-DV camcorders - reviewed in an article
on my web site, under "I babble", with noise level
and type, and sound-quality evaluations...). The
TRV-900's I have tried (maybe four altogether) have
been reasonably quiet in the recorded audio, though
all mini-DV camcorders have at least a slight amount
of recorded camera noise (the XL-1 was better than
others, the TRV-9 terrible...) in a quiet room.
BTW, if you can find the old Cool Edit 96 (no
longer offered, alas, at the old low price), it
had a very effective noise-reduction filter - the
noise alone could be sampled, then that noise
(if steady) could (mostly) be removed from the
audio track. It works well for me for removing
fan noises (and the camera noise of a PC-1...).
