Actually, converters can be VERY useful on short lenses.
The TC14A on an 8mm fisheye enlarges the image, but
still gives 180 degrees of horizontal or vertical coverage;
the TC14A with the 16mm fisheye makes an excellent, sharp
"people" super-wide; converters on the *AIS* 28mm f2.8
convert it to a pretty decent macro lens; converters on
PC lenses can allow very extreme shift effects; converters
on macro lenses both convert them to more practical longer FL's,
and double the maximum magnification with little additional
physical size/weight - and without loss of infinity-focus;
converters on short teles make good travel lenses (a TC14A
on 85mm-200mm compact MF lenses gives one longer FL's that
are reasonably sharp and compact)... So, there! ;-)
