I am thinking of buying a 2x teleconverter for my nikkor 80-200 f2.8
and I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the picture quality is
with this converter? I know that a high end 400mm lense is about
$5000.00 . My next question is what would be the difference in picture
quality between a 400mm and a 200mm with 2x converter?
thanks for your help.

An un-modified TC20E will not fit any but I and S Nikkors...
But I have a modified one (FS, LN, $360...;-) that will fit
the 80-200mm f2.8 AF Nikkor, and while it performs better
than the TC201 on this lens (and is quite good at the short
end through the middle of the zoom range), it would not be up
to a 400mm in image quality at the long end - though the
price is MUCH lower than Nikon's 400mm f5.6... BTW, no
Nikkor converter will AF any Nikkor but the I and S lenses
(though the TC16A will itself provide AF over a short
focus range).
Hope This Helps
