The Nikon TC14A is an excellent converter, period. It works very well
on most lenses 200mm and shorter, though performance is better at
aperatures f5.6 and smaller. Lenses faster than about f2 will need
exposure compensation. It adds about 3/4" to the length of whatever
it is put on, and you lose one stop in lens speed (unless the lens is
faster than f2, and used wider than f2 [don't]). Some of my favorite
lenses with the TC14A: 8mm f2.8 (180 degrees coverage horizontal, but
a larger image than with the lens alone); 16mm fisheye (makes a GREAT
people super-wide, is VERY sharp by f5.6, and makes a super-wide that
tends to keep distant building vertical lines vertical, even when the
camera is tipped down or up); any macro lens (gives 1.4X more magnification with only a short extension in lens length); 35mm PC
(makes a 50mm PC, though shift should be kept to 5mm max., and aperture
should not be smaller than about f5.6 for maximum sharpness with the decentered optical system); short teles (makes slightly longer teles that are quite compact - try it on a 200mm f4 for a mini 280mm lens);
70-210mm f4 E (makes a sharp, compact 100-300mm approximation that
is sharp one stop down from wide-open); etc. I like it!
Hope this helps.
