One of the strange design decisions of Nikon was to put a mask at the
rear of the AF 180mm Nikkor that is a bit too small to pass the fronts
of the TC14B and TC301 teleconverters - one can only wonder how good the
combinations might have been (the 180 AF Nikkor is one VERY sharp lens,
and the glass is deeply recessed in the rear and should clear both
converters). The TC14A does fit, and the results are good (the TC201
also fits, but the resulting performance is not exciting...;-).
