Assuming 400 ASA for example:
TTL flash shot ASA 400 + ambient light shot ASA 400 = one stop
overexposure, so rate film 800 ASA:
TTL flash shot ASA 800 + ambient light shot ASA 800 = correct exposure
for 400 ASA film rated at 800 ASA when adding flash and ambient exposures
(benefit: color and exposure errors from either half of the exposure
are halved in the total final exposure, and a "free" stop of film speed
without pushing the film). Works for all film types, though I tend to
overexpose negative color intentionally. Neat, huh?
I sold my Minolta meter - never used it except for checking new flashes,
since TTL flash works so well.
