This was all a very bad joke...
I have one of the pre-8/98 TRV-9's that can do
daylight infrared, and the results (B&W mode,
without filter, or with a red or IR filter
for somewhat stronger effect) with daylight
summer landscapes are wonderful - I would miss
this ability in newer camcorders if they cannot
shoot IR in daylight (true???). The night-IR
feature is nearly useless - and the daylight
"see through clothes" effect is a myth; the
daylight-IR feature is VERY useful to me
(but not for what all the hype was about...).
Sony apparently got nervous about the
daylight IR feature and may have needlessly
dumped a good and unusual feature, alas...
