I agree. Sony manuals are "the pits". It is not that they
are inaccurate, or even (mostly ;-) not thorough (though
there is some info that is consistently missing from
the manuals for all their camcorders...), or suffering from
laughably bad translations - they are just not
well-organized and indexed, as you point out (one can
remember reading about particular functions, yet not be
able to find their locations in the manuals without thumbing
through much of the (extensive) manuals page-by-page...
