It will extend the distance compared with the built-in
IR light, but is likely to have the same failing: a
narrow beam of illumination, useless for anything
but tele shooting.

It tells you how much light (in the center of the
field, I suspect...) you get, and extended out to 30m,
indicates there will be *very* little IR light available
around 80-100'.

Sony makes another one that may be more powerful, but
other people have had better solutions, which I do not
recall, alas...
