I opted for the non-hot shoe version of the Sony mic, since
directivity doesn't change all that much with zooming, but
tonal balance sure does! Giving up the wireless audio
connection, and camera powering of the mic was a good
trade for losing the auto-zoom feature... The ECM-Z157 is
a surprisingly good-sounding mic (when the zoom setting
is appropriate) for very little money - but it is VERY
wind-sensitive.
