I drove myself darn near bats again today trying to clean
a lens that had been "cleaned" with a silicone-based lens
"gooifier".... I buy (too many) used lenses, and once in a
while (WAY too often!) the hazy look of a silicone coat
gives away the fact that I am in for a miserable time
trying to clean the lens (especially if it is multicoated).
Alcohol, Windex, lighter fluid, Palmolive, and ROR all
work, to some extent, but all cause a residual bit to
come out from the lens edge, just as I think I am nearing
completion of the ardurous task, causing me to start over,
again.
So, PUL-LEEZ don't use silicone-containing lens cleaners!
(Especially if you want to sell a lens to me!) They offer
no advantage, and cause a lot of grief!
Hope This Helps
