This may not be your problem, but it sure caught me! (I even bought
another SC-18, thinking mine defective.) Make sure the rear-curtain
synch. switches on both flashes are on front (normal) curtain
position - otherwise the second flash does not work TTL (just always
fires full power). I seem to remember that other functions are not
transferred through the SC-18. (Actually, I dislike the auto-zoom
feature, anyway, and try to disable it when using AF lenses [yet
another reason for not using AF lenses]. The zoom feature used
manually combined with tilt-swival can allow rather nice shadings
and directing of light with the SB-24, even when a single flash is
shoe mounted on the camera. Unlike most flashes, the SB-24 edge
roll-off is soft edged, and allows shading of light. [It is possible
to light a deep room evenly from front to back, or shade-off a near
figure on one side using the one flash with a good choice of zoom
angle and tilt-swivel.]) A single SB-24 is so versatile that I
rarely use multiples (let me know if you want to sell yours after
trying multiple flashes - double shadows never were my thing!).
Hope this helps.
