The SB24 is one heck of a good flash - and it can do one usefull thing
that I have never seen mentioned anywhere else: you can use it to
adjust the flash level in different parts of the photo by aiming the
head and using the soft and even roll-off of illumination at the edge
of coverage (combined with manual selection of "lens coverage"). With
this ability, I can illuminate evenly a deep room (without the
hot-foreground/black-background look) , or shade down a near person
at the left or right side of the photo, or shoot between two near
people and illuminate distant people without over-lighting the
nearer people - a wonder-flash! I do not know if the SB-25/6 can
do this also, but if not, I would not give up this ability in
trade for the very occasional advantage of the "D" feature (and I
don't use AF lenses, anyway....), and the other less useful features
added to the later flashes. Pop a styrofoam cup over the up-turned
head for close photos (gets the light source above the lens for
verticals, and loses light so that you can shoot close with fast
film and wide apertures) or for wide-angle flash, and power the
SB-24 with 750ma/hr NiCads (FAST recycle, long life), and this
flash is hard to beat as a light, convenient, and versatile
light source!
Hope This Helps
