This may not be helpful, but I used to use external packs - until I
bought SB-24's. High-capacity NiCads produce uniformly fast recycle
times (about 4 seconds at full power, which I rarely use with this
flash, so recycle times are generally instantaneous), are lighter
than Alkalines - and far lighter than using an external pack (which
still requires batteries in the flash, if you use the external
connection), have very long life in this flash (it almost seems
like magic - I sometimes do a whole 12-roll wedding with one battery
set [with fast film]), and it is a compact cordless power solution.
