I bought 8008's and SB-24's for one reason: selectable TTL fill-ratios.
Side benefits I later discovered: FAST recycle with NiCads, and soft
edge roll-off, which allows me to do a lot of specialty-type lighting
with the on-camera flash (soft-edged spot lighting, deep-room lighting
without forground wash-out and background light fall-off, shading of
nearby side subjects while lighting more distant parts of the photo).
The SB-24 is a wonderful flash. (BTW, the strobe thingy is nearly
useless, but the rear curtain sync. is almost a must with fill flash
in low light. And it covers my 20mm well enough.)
Hope This Helps
