I hate the autozoom feature, and it is one of many reasons I don't use
AF lenses (with MF lenses, the flash zoom position I select to do what I
want stays put, instead of having to be constantly changed to stay the same).

NiCads work wonderfully well with the SB-24, giving very fast recycle
times - and their charge seems to last forever in this flash. I put away
my gel-cel when I bought the SB-24's - there was no need for an external
pack (and you can buy a rechargeable set of NiCads for the price of a
set of lithiums).
