Years ago, I thought the same and sold my f3.5 Rollei 35 to
get the Sonnar version. It quickly taught me the value of
contrast over resolution - the corners of the f3.5 at wide
stops test worse than the f2.8 (only 2/3rds stop faster, BTW...)
but overall the images from the f3.5 looked better
in slides and B&W prints. I sold the f2.8, and as luck would
have it, a few years later (and across the country!) my original
f3.5 was offered me by the buyer who saw me at
a market. I bought it eagerly and have kept it (and others
bought since). I would not sell the f3.5 before comparing
the results first with the alternatives...;-)
