Everybody else will tell you the 5-element f2.8 Sonnar is the best,
but that was not my experience. While it tests better than the f3.5
4-element Tessar and similar Xenar, particularly in the corners, this
is a good example of when the "inferior" lens looks better in photos - color slides look snappier and sharper with the Tessar-Xenar than the
Sonnar, even in the corners. (I sold my Sonnar-equiped Rollei 35
and bought back my Xenar-equiped version years ago, whew!) The Triotar
is a good example of why the German camera industry has had such problems - only the Germans would put a yucky 3-element mediocre lens
on a good camera (the Japanese pretty consistently put only good lenses
on everything, even the cheapest cameras [at least, until recently..]).
