As others have pointed out, these connections are for
allowing use of a DV camcorder or Sony A-D/D-A box for
720x480 full-motion (hardware) overlay of video on
the computer monitor. You can also use the hardware
outputs (RCA for picture, split RCA's for stereo sound)
for additional monitoring on a TV - VERY useful while
editing, since the interlacing effects and color/contrast
are different between the computer monitor and a TV
(and you can check the sound edit on two different
sound systems).
