Possibilities:
- mixing tapes *regularly and often* may be OK
(some people report this)
- most (all?) tape brands are made by either Sony
or Panasonic (you may have been lucky in your
tape-brand choices)
- minor dropouts are corrected invisibly when there
is no motion in the frame (using a tripod without
pan/tilt/zoom would reduce the percentage of
visible minor dropouts)
- you may not be sensitive to minor dropouts (many
people aren't, since they occupy only a small
part of one frame, and the dropouts are replaced
with image material from the previous frame).
