Ummmm, yes, you *can* get these filters in small enough
sizes to use with step-up rings on small camcorders, BUT,
*you may not want to do this*...! ;-) For the fun of it,
I bought a 52mm Tiffen (ooh, I dislike Tiffen filters - but
sometimes Tiffen is the only supplier of specialty filters
of interest...) Black Pro-Mist no. 1. It could not be used
with a wide-angle, and it could be used on the zoom lens
without the wide-angle, but only with the aperture locked
at f2.8 or wider (on a TRV900 - you can't do this on a
TRV17...) - otherwise, you can clearly see the bits of
black hair-like thingies embedded in the filter glass in
plain-tone subject areas. Generally, the filter reduces
picture brilliance and color saturation noticeably, and
picture sharpness a bit, not very desirable things, I
think...;-) Some will claim that the special-order PM
1/2 or 1/4 are better, and while this is likely true,
it is just less of a bad thing, so why bother...? ;-)
"Film Look" is a silly concept - video can be beautiful,
used with an understanding of its strengths; trying to make
the video medium resemble another medium makes as much sense
as giving photographs a "canvas-texture" look so they look
more like paintings - the result is bad photographs, not
good paintings...
