A-HAH!!! I found the solution!
If you select "square pixels" in P-6, the problem goes
away (though circle and square irises will have the wrong
aspect ratio when rendered/exported, as in P-5, but who
cares...?). If I need a round iris transition (but without
the colored edge), I can switch pixel proportions for 4:3
preview display, export/import the bits, and go back to
square pixels...
