It works very well...
I use two sharp 17" monitors, set to 1152x864, and use
the preview window in single-view mode at 720x480,
full-motion with Raptor overlay. The timeline crosses
one monitor and part of the other, with plenty of room
for multi video and audio tracks. The other three windows
tuck neatly under the preview and timeline windows. I
don't know how Premiere can be used efficiently without
going to dual monitors, even if one is a 15" set for
800x600 for the preview window. I was (and am) using
two 8-meg ATI cards (one AGP, one PCI), with the
Windows drivers (I set the monitor refresh rates
different for the two monitors to prevent rolling dark
bands). I tried a Matrox G-400 dual-head card, but could
not get the Raptor hardware overlay to work with Win98,
though it worked very well under Win2k.
