Hmmm...
On my system, I can open Premiere without a DV device
attached without crashing the program - I just get no
preview unless I reset Raptor to use software instead
of hardware for a preview image... This is not Premiere,
but a Hardware/software (other than Premiere...) thing.
Timeline playback is also reliable - maybe it wouldn't
be with a more iffey hardware/software (other than
Premiere) set-up...

Hmmm, again... I just tried it - a 30-second still (BMP)
with title over it took 2 minutes 23 seconds to render on my system. Something is amiss...

But they do on some systems, which leads to the conclusion
(since Premiere is the same on all) that it is not Premiere,
but the hardware and/or other-software and/or set-up that is
a problem... BTW, I just completed a 1.5 hour edit - except
for the mis-placed renders (I don't consider this a problem
for the way I work), I did not experience any of the problems
described. I know how frustrating set-up can be,
and it may be that other programs are easier to set up,
but I think Premiere can run fine on a proper set-up...
(which is not necessarily defined by Adobe or a user group,
though both should have helpful advice/information). I
have run Premiere successfully on three different computers,
and it ran well on all (though not without a few bugs...;-).
