They are actually quite different. The PC9 imaging is similar
to the TRV11/TRV17/PC5 imaging, with far fewer pixels
of somewhat larger size used for the video image compared
with the TRV20/PC100/PC110, and the different
but similar-concept TRV30. The result is a picture with a
bit lower resolution and slightly greater low-light reach.
On the plus side (comparing the TRV11 with the PC100 - the
PC9 arrives early next week...;-), the picture is warmer
and smoother-looking, with less artifacting. I like
both, but for different reasons and purposes. The sound
quality of my PC100 is excellent, and of the PC9-similar
PC1, very good (better than the TRV11 with the built-in
mic). Sony appears to be dividing its consumer camcorder
line into three parts: one chip good-quality; one-chip
higher-quality; three-chip...
