The basic metering technology hasn't changed in 40 years...;-)
Electronic whiz-bang add-ons have appeared, though (I prefer simple...).
The difference is that most cameras read exposure off the viewing screen,
but the F3 reads it through the mirror. This causes the meter read area
to shift a bit with lens shift, but to not mis-read (notice the viewing
screen get dark off center with the shifted lens - the meter sees this
too, though it is due to VF optics decentering and not to PC lens
illumination roll-off.
